When people think of giving back, they usually think of money.
A donation, a fundraiser, a check to a good cause. And while all of that matters, we’ve always believed that time, space, and opportunity are just as valuable, if not more.
That’s why we built the Flexible Arena.
It all began during the pandemic.
Rinks were closed. Seasons were canceled. And a lot of kids had nowhere to skate. So we did something about it.
We cleared out a space behind our office, dropped some boards, bought a Zamboni, and poured the first sheet of ice. It wasn’t fancy. But it gave the neighborhood something to look forward to again.
A place to play. A place to practice. A place to just be a kid again.
And it hasn’t stopped since.
What began as a temporary solution has grown into something permanent: a fully covered, year-round facility funded by Flexible IT and run by volunteers. Every member of our staff who helps operate the rink, whether it’s driving the Zamboni or unlocking the doors, is also a full-time employee here at Flexible IT. Just people giving back to the place that raised them.
The Founders of Flexible IT met each other playing hockey at Stony Brook University over 40 Years ago.
Hockey is expensive. Ice time is harder to come by. And for a lot of families, especially those just starting out, the cost is simply out of reach.
That’s why we’ve kept one promise from day one:
Every hour at the Flexible Arena is free.
No hidden fees. No rental charges. No strings attached.
It’s not just a rink. It’s a resource. A community asset. And we’re proud to say it’s the only nonprofit arena of its kind anywhere.

In memory of a beloved colleague, we support GRO’s mission to fund research and raise awareness around one of the most aggressive forms of brain cancer.
