In this clip from a 2018 interview with Joe Campolo, Managing Partner at Campolo, Middleton & McCormick, Marty Schmitt and Kevin Edwards share how they each found their way to Flexible IT.
Marty traces the company's roots to Stony Brook, where two founders supporting computers at their respective employers realized they were learning more than the manufacturers knew, and decided to start a business to support computer users across Long Island. Marty graduated college and joined the team in 1985, and has been part of supporting the Long Island business community ever since.
Kevin's path was different — he came from marketing and advertising, started his own software development company, and then sold it before meeting Marty and joining Flexible. At the time, Kevin was deeply involved in technology for medical practices, which eventually became the company's first foothold in cybersecurity.

[Marty] We came out of Stony Brook. My two partners were doing computer support at their respective companies and decided that they were learning more than what the manufacturers know. They thought it would be a good idea to start a business where we could support other users of computing across Long Island. I graduated college and came on board right around 1985, and since then we've been supporting the Long Island business community.
[Joe Campolo] That's terrific. And Kevin, when did you join? What's your background?
[Kevin] My background's a little different than how you typically get to where we are. I came out of the marketing and advertising arena, but actually started my own business from that — developing software. After a couple of years of doing that, I sold the company, and then met Marty seven years ago today. So we met each other and realized there was a connection. At that time I was really involved with medical practice technology, and it all worked out. Here we are today.
[Kevin] That's just grown into what it is today, especially on the cyber side — helping medical practices was our first area of diving into the cyber realm. It's just grown.
