Somehow the summer is almost over already.
It has been a busy few months at the Flexible Arena, and with roller season wrapping up and ice season right around the corner, this felt like a good time to catch everyone up. There are four things we are excited to share.
We just finished a full rebuild of flexiblearena.com, and we are really happy with how it came out.
The old site told people the rink existed. The new one is built for the families who actually use it. The schedule is front and center now, so you can pull it up on your phone in the parking lot and see what is happening that day, whether it is youth or adult, and how to sign up.
We also gave the rink's story its own page, added a page for past events so you can look back at the tournaments and charity weekends we have hosted, and wrote a page explaining who Flexible IT is and why an IT company owns a hockey rink. That last one is the question we get most.

The multi-sport tiles we put down in 2025 turned what used to be a quiet offseason into a real season, and this summer proved it was worth doing.
It also turned out we had built something more useful than a roller rink. This summer we welcomed arena soccer, box lacrosse and roller derby to the surface alongside the hockey. That was not something we planned for when the tiles went down, and watching those groups make the place their own has been one of the best parts of the year.
The surface stayed busy. The tournaments filled up. Open play kept running all week long, the same way it does in the winter. We watched a lot of kids learn to play on those tiles this summer, and a lot of families make the arena part of their week.
Thank you to every team, coach, organizer and parent who came out. You are the reason any of this works.
Now we get ready for the part we look forward to all year.
The ice goes back in at the end of October, and ice season picks up from there with open play, weekly Saturday morning pickup, and the tournament schedule that comes with the winter. Everything we have on the calendar will be posted on the events page as it gets scheduled, so keep an eye there.
The arena is open more than 25 hours a week, and it stays free to every team and organization that uses it. That has not changed and it is not going to.
If you have driven past our building on Motor Parkway, you might not know there is a hockey rink behind it. There is, and it is a bit of an accident.
Seth, Joe and Marty met at Stony Brook University, played hockey together, and have been running a business together for more than forty years. None of them ever planned to build a rink.
Then March 2020 shut down every rink on Long Island and kids had nowhere to play. So we put an outdoor sheet behind the office. A warm winter made natural ice unreliable, so we added refrigeration. In 2024 a pre-fabricated roof structure built for another site landed in our lap and, almost unbelievably, fit our footprint exactly. In 2025 the tiles went down for summer.
It has been open ever since.
The rink sits right behind our office at 290 Motor Parkway in Hauppauge. Same property, same building our team works out of every day. There is more to that story than fits here, and the arena site now tells it properly on the Flexible Arena story page.
One more thing worth mentioning for the business owners reading this, and there are a lot of you along these boards.

Back to the rink the following week, and out to rinks all over Long Island, because the families who skate here skate everywhere else too. Your name goes with them. If your business grows on local referrals, and most professional services, healthcare, home services and hospitality companies on the Island do, that is a lot of ground for it to cover.
